Encounter the mystery at Pukeiti
23 January 2014
Mysteries of the Pukeiti rainforest will be revealed during a free guided walk on Sunday (2 February).
People taking part in the three-hour expedition deep into the 360ha property’s lush rainforest will learn about its flora and fauna, some interesting uses of native plants, and stories behind some of the archaeological sites in the forest.
The event is part of Pukeiti’s regular series of family-focused Explorer Days.
“The rainforest is a magic place, and this is heightened when you learn about the plants and the people who have lived and worked there,” says the Taranaki Regional Council’s Regional Gardens Manager, Greg Rine. “This guided walk is a rare opportunity to delve deeper.”
Sunday’s expedition involves a number of stream crossings and good walking boots are essential. Participants should also bring lunch and drinks, and gather at the Gatehouse at 10.30am.
The guided walk is part of a year-round programme of free public events at Pukeiti, Hollard Gardens and Tupare, the three heritage properties owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region. For more information, see www.pukeiti.org.nz, www.tupare.info and www.hollardgardens.info. Social media users can also follow the three Taranaki Regional Council Gardens on Facebook (TaranakiRegionalGardens) and Twitter (@TaranakiRG).
Sunday’s event is also part of the New Plymouth District Council’s Summer Guided Walks programme.
