Kaleidoscope World Series 29 - Supergroups and up-and-comers
Powertool Records brings you the next summer mini-festival – Kaleidoscope World Series 29, this Saturday January 18th.
Hosted at West Auckland’s most happening new venue, UFO, it’s a showcase of the known, the unknown and some unexpected surprises.
The 9-band lineup is a mixture of styles for any music lover: the all-starBrother Love band,Fats White,Gem Indigo, psychedelic supergroupThe Seeds of Orbit(Mark Petersen - -Straitjacket Fits, Cabbage Bomber, Shaft),Vostok Lake, The Twitch, Changing Same (Matthew Bannister’s band),Ian Morris andGrrlfriendz.
The will be a compilation featuring all the acts playing - entry is $15 and includes the CD.

Brother Lovehave been rowing their rockin’ boat for 20 years now, helmed by guitarist/songwriterMarty Henderson. Over their 2-decade career, Brother Love’s various indie star-studded line-ups have gained the notice of record labels in New York and Germany, with the band touring the US twice. They have released four albums and a 7” internationally, and their lo-fi hi-volume take on psychedelic garage blues has earned them slots playing alongside bands such asBardo Pond, Fuzzhead, Mark Arm’s Bloodloss, San Francisco’sMonoshock andBarbara Manning, theNo-Neck Blues, Dead Moon, King Loser andSebadoh. In 2013, the group released the retrospective compilation “20 Years In A Rockin’ Boat”, and they have since been working on new material for both vinyl and CD/online.

Fats White - An original self taught do it yourself artist, Brent Hayward, akaFats White, is one of the most distinctive voices in New Zealand music and film. Gem Indigo plays experimental/alternative improvised music – an original blend of all musical styles. Inspiring, uplifting, entertaining solo electric guitar music complemented by vocals and harmonica.
Seeds of Orbit are 3-piece lovers of psychedelic folk and heavy rock stoner mod tunes! Made up ofMark Petersound (akaMark Petersen–Straitjacket Fits, Cabbage Bomber, Shaft),Bridgette Bowie andMarty Doo. Their fantastically psychedelically mind-altering debut EP ‘Seeds of Orbit’ has just been released on Powertool.
Vostok Lake began as a musical project in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2007. It is the brainchild ofDaphne Lawless, a self-described "renaissance woman trying to start a renaissance".Vostok Lake creates music according to the"Weightless Music" ethos, using open-source software and consumer-standard equipment, without any involvement with professional studios. "Vostok Lake is 100% within the Kiwi do-it-yourself tradition", says Lawless. "Electronic, open-source music is the wave of the 21st century. It's democratic, and it's punk. We aim to be totally independent from the music industry - and to prove that anyone can create good quality electronic popular music with a minimum of financial outlay."
