Here’s a Thing: Late Night Improv
A lolly scramble of awesome
What happens when crack teams of NZ and Australia’s top improvisors join forces for one night only? Magic.
After collaborations at New Zealand Improv Festival, Improvention (Canberra) and The Classic (Melbourne), Fringe at the Gryphon reunites some of Australasia’s top performers for some glorious late night shenanigans in Here’s A Thing! Late Night Improv. With each show featuring a different line up of performers from across the festival, across the country, and across the Tasman, each will be a unique opportunity for hilarious theatre, presenting a variety of formats and styles to a discerning late night audience.
“Improvisors and audiences agree: the highlights of improv festivals are the nights where a one-off combination of players and styles come together in that place, and at that time, and magic happens,” says chief cat herder Jennifer O’Sullivan. “With this show, we want to create the space for that kind of spark to find purchase among the madness of NZ Fringe.”
Confirmed guests for the season include three of Australia’s top performers, recently seen on Channel 7 (AU)’s Slideshow - Rik Brown (Literally Anything, Fringe 2014), Jason Geary (Sketch-ual Healing, Fringe 2014) and Jimmy James Eaton (Sketch-ual Healing, Fringe 2014). National treasures gracing the Gryphon stage include Matt Powell (Christchurch), Christine Brooks (Wellington) and Greg Ellis (Wellington), with more performers to be announced in the lead up to Fringe 2014. “It could well be a recipe for chaos if they were not all highly accomplished improvisers.” - NZIF, Theatreview
