About Joy:
Joy Dio is an emerging artist who wants teach people how to fly. She is the only Aerial Yoga teacher in Wellington and the North Island. Originally from the Philippines and having lived all over the world prior to moving to New Zealand, Joy now considers Wellington home and loves it. She has been inspired by the city and its creative beating heart to make her own artistic contribution into the landscape. She has collaborated in the past with local artists in SAMPLE (Some Artists Make Performance Laboratory Experiments) and worked closely with Wellingtonian visual artist Mariya Kupriyenko. Joy is passionate about the body, movement and dance and the power and beauty of the physical form to move people and tell stories. With Welcome Home she hopes to tell her own.
About Welcome Home:
Escape into a Mexican oasis in the heart of Newtown and be transported into extraordinary everyday in an explosion of Aerial Yoga, music, dance, lights, and circus. Celebrate themes of life and love under the stars through a performance fusing art and architecture, projection, physical theatre, comedy, surrealism and sheer randomness. The stage is the deck, the roof, the air, the sky. Look up, look up. Let’s go somewhere and fly.
With the help of her girlfriend Henry, projectionist Dan Aston, a scuba diver, balloons and other surprises Welcome Home is set in the artist’s garden to transport, delight, entertain and elevate your feet of the ground.
