Victoria University Flying Disc Club –
Lotto Sport Makers Good Practice Recognition
Victoria University Flying Disc Club has recently been recognised by Sport Wellington as showing good practice as they
progress the alignment of their structure and culture to volunteering.
This recognition is part of the ‘Thank a Sport Maker’ campaign; a partnership with the Lotto Volunteer Foundation and
Sport New Zealand that will see the greater Wellington region sharing in over $1 million of quality clothing and sports
gear to be awarded to Sport Makers throughout New Zealand over the next three years.
Sport Wellington celebrates good practice at a local or regional level by rewarding organisations who have demonstrated
processes, policies and culture that support sustainability and growth – with a particular focus on volunteer (or “Sport
Makers”) management. Sports organisations can access volunteer management resources and templates at

Victoria University Flying Disc Club has had a wonderful season on the pitch, with several national age group and full
international Ultimate players in the last year. Jamie Milne, Sport Development Advisor from Sport Wellington says “the
achievement of the players is significant; playing for your country is a proud moment. Underpinning this achievement are
a great team of volunteers who manage the club, coach, referee and support each other through thick and thin.
The volunteering culture of this sport and this club in particular is somewhat unique. The club has structures in place
to recognise, reward and retain these people who put systems in place to enable the athletes to perform. Their prize of
gear and equipment will, I am sure, be put to good use by the students as they continue to grow their sport and
volunteer culture."
Sport Wellington congratulates Victoria University Flying Disc Club on its work in the community and through the
investment from the Lotto Volunteer Foundation and Sport New Zealand is providing the club with a $1,000 worth of ‘Sport
Makers’ sporting goods.
People can show their appreciation for the Sport Makers who blow a whistle, coach, balance the books or help cook the
