ETEC fields international driver line-up for Toyota Racing Series' tenth anniversary season
ETEC Motorsport is proud to announce an international driver line-up for its assault on the 2014 Toyota Racing Series (TRS), which gets under way at Teretonga Park Raceway in Invercargill (9-12 January).
The TRS – New Zealand’s premier single-seater championship, which celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2014 – is renowned for bringing together the most diverse crop of racers.
This year’s field is once again an amalgamation of the world’s most talented young hopefuls from a variety of motorsport disciplines and ETEC continues to set the bar high by pulling together a formidable driver combination.
The Auckland-based team has a history of fielding front-running drivers, including Jann Mardenborough and Josh Hill – son of 1996 British Formula 1 World Champion, Damon – and for providing a springboard into the highest echelons of motor racing, including Formula 3 and V8 Supercars.
Joining ETEC’s ranks in 2014 are Russian hotshots Dennis Korneev and Matevos Isaakyan, Croatian Martin Kodric and Australian Jordan Oon.
Oon, aged 23 from Perth in Western Australia, finished fifth in both the 2013 Australian and British F3 championships, having previously made appearances in the F3 European Open and Formula Pilota China and achieved third overall in the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Championship.
Moscow-born Korneev, meanwhile, made his car racing debut in the 2012 Formula 4 Championship.
The 20-year old graduated to Formula Renault in 2013 and joins fellow countryman Isaakyan, who impressively accumulated no fewer than five podium finishes and two fastest laps during his maiden French F4 campaign and will compete under the SMP Racing Academy banner in 2014’s TRS.
Kodric, aged 16, has been a prolific kart racer since 2006 and his five cup and championship competition victories in the 2013 CIK FIA European Championship was a precursor to a successful debut in the Protyre Formula Renault Autumn Cup with Fortec Motorsport.
ETEC Motorsport team boss, Trevor Scheumack, said: “It promises to be yet another thrilling Toyota Racing Series season and I have high hopes for ETEC Motorsport and its drivers. They are a young bunch who have all shown a great deal of potential throughout their careers and it will be an honour to help develop their skills throughout the 2014 TRS campaign, starting with the opening round at Teretonga Park this weekend.”
