Michael Foster Frequency is an immersive theatre show that takes a small audience (only ten people per evening) on a
self-guided adventure through the streets of Wellington, where they will encounter characters, be texted by mysterious
forces, and perhaps have a chance to save the world.
Writer/director Leonie Reynolds’s background is in film, but she has a longstanding interest in theatre (her documentary
about playwright Jo Randerson, Disappear in Light, played in the Documentary Edge festival).
Leonie wanted to create a show where the stars are the audience.
“Frequency is quite experimental – literally – we’re trying out some ideas that haven’t been done before, as far as we
know, and seeing how far we can take an audience."
Cowriter Michael Foster is very comfortable with interactivity and the new direction theatre’s going in – he’s a member
of Wellington’s adventurous LARP (Live Action Role Play) community, where costumed players engage in spectacular,
completely immersive dramas that have been storylined by LARP writers like himself.
A number of talented members of the LARP community will be drawing on their immersive backgrounds to bring characters to
life in the show.
