ETEC Brings the World to Toyota Racing Series

Always known for bringing an exciting mix of drivers from around the world to contest the Toyota Racing Series, ETEC Motorsport boss Trevor Sheumack this year fields four drivers to continue the team’s trend for New Zealand’s premier motor racing championship.

In recent seasons, his ETEC team has fielded a series of front-running drivers including Jann Mardenborough in 2013 and Josh Hill (son of 1996 World F1 Champion Damon) in 2011 and 2012. Australian Scott Pye stepped up from Australian Formula Ford to cut his teeth in wings and slicks with ETEC in TRS. He has just signed to race with Dick Johnson Racing in the 2014 V8 Supercars series in Australia. JoiningETEC this year are Russians Dennis Korneev and Matevos Isaakyan, Croatian Martin Kodric and Australian Jordan Oon.

Jordan Oon (23) from Perth in Western Australia is the most experienced of the ETEC drivers having raced in Formula Ford before competing in the Formula BMW Pacific championship in 2010 finishing third in the series. The following year he raced Formula Pilota in China and also competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Championship. In 2012 he raced in the F3 European Open championship. In 2013 he finished fifth in the Australian Formula Three series and fifth in the British Formula Three national class.

Denis Korneev (20) raced karts prior to stepping into Formula 4 in 2012 and then on into Formula Renault in 2013. Moscow-born Korneev raced with Jenzer Motorsport in Europe alongside Levin Amweg who is also contesting the 2014 TRS.

Russian Matevos Isaakyan is the youngest driver in the ETEC line-up. He raced Academy-class karts in the FIM Eurocup before progressing on to the French Formula 4 series in 2013 where he took five podium finishes and two fastest laps from 20 races. Isaakyan joins fellow Russian Egor Orudzhev (M2 Competition) to race under the SMP Racing academy banner in TRS.

Martin Kodric (16) has a strong background in karting that began in 2006 and has continued until this year where he competed in the CIK FIA European Championship, he won five cup and championship competitions. This year Kodric was third in the UK Protyre Formula Renault Autumn Cup championship racing with the Fortec team.

The four-car entry from ETEC brings the 2014 TRS grid to 23 with 13 nations represented among the drivers and a record 19 international entries.
