Rangers from throughout New Zealand and overseas will be descending on Auckland and the city’s surrounds this week to enjoy outdoor adventures in the area.
The Rangers will be attending FLAME, GirlGuiding New Zealand’s Ranger Event in Auckland, from Saturday 4 January until Saturday 11 January 2014.
For the first few days over 370 Rangers and 120 leaders and volunteers will be under canvas at Wesley College in Pukekohe, including girls from Ireland, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Fiji, the Philippines and the Cook Islands.
The girls, aged from 13 to 18 years, will have the opportunity to challenge themselves with outdoor activities including white water rafting, caving, horse riding and snorkelling.
Before starting their off-site adventures, all the Rangers spend time under canvas at Wesley College having fun at a talent quest, confidence building and team work activities along with Try It Tuesday where they have a range of choices including archery, orienteering, boxing or circus skills.
“The opportunity to participate in outdoor activities and adventures is one reason why members enjoy being part of Guiding,” says Rhonda Gray, Volunteer Chair of the FLAME Organising Committee, GirlGuiding New Zealand.
“The girls grow and learn from these experiences. They test their abilities, learn about working cooperatively and have the opportunity to interact with girls their age from overseas, all supported by our volunteer leaders.”
