Hang Out With The Bats Next Month
Dunedin, 19 December 2013 – Residents and visitors can relive the Dunedin Sound once again when The Bats take to the stage next month.
The influential New Zealand rock band will perform at the Dunedin Botanic Garden Bandstand on Sunday, 26 January 2014 at 1pm. The free concert is expected to attract thousands of people so grab a rug, bring a picnic, pack up the family and join the crowd.
Dunedin City Council Communications and Marketing Manager Graham McKerracher says this is a wonderful opportunity to listen to well-loved New Zealand music in the beautiful setting of the Botanic Garden.
“The Bats had a huge effect on the local and national music scene. The band is as excited about performing in the Garden as we are to be hearing them again.”
This is the second time the DCC has put on a public, alcohol-free concert at the Bandstand with a renowned Dunedin Sound band. In January this year, The Chills performed during the launch of the Botanic Garden’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
“People had a great time at The Chills concert and we are confident The Bats will also draw a big crowd of enthusiastic fans and people keen to enjoy a summer concert in the Botanic Garden,” Mr McKerracher says.
Formed in Christchurch in 1982, The Bats were an integral part of the Dunedin Sound that emerged in the early 1980s. The band has retained the same four members – Robert Scott, Malcolm Grant, Paul Kean and Kaye Woodward.
If it rains on the 26th, the concert will be postponed until Sunday, 2 February at 1pm.
