Peter Davison to Host Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular With special recorded contributions from Tom Baker

Legendary Fifth DoctorPeter Davison is heading to New Zealand next year as theDoctor Who Symphonic Spectacular makes its New Zealand debut at the 2014 New Zealand Festival with a new show based on the UK’s Doctor Who 50th
Anniversary Proms. Davison will host the show, which will also feature specially filmed links from Fourth DoctorTom Baker who recently had a cameo role in the 50th Anniversary episodeThe Day of the Doctor.
Davison, who played the Doctor between 1981-1984 said: “I am really looking forward to coming to New Zealand as part of
theDoctor Who Symphonic Spectacular tour, as well as coming face to face with any Daleks or Cybermen who may turn up along the way. The music of Doctor Who
is amazing and nothing can compare to hearing it performed ‘live’ by an orchestra the calibre of the New Zealand
Symphony Orchestra.”
Also taking to the stage at the TSB Bank Arena in Wellington is renowned conductorBen Foster. Foster has orchestrated and conducted Murray Gold's music for Doctor Who since 2005, comprising 83 episodes to date,
as well as concerts at the BBC Proms, Doctor Who Live and previous performances ofDoctor Who Symphonic Spectacular.
Foster said: “I am delighted to be back on tour withDoctor Who Symphonic Spectacular. Doctor Who has been such a big part of my life for such a long time – it’s great to share this experience with so
many fans.”
A musical celebration of the iconic BBC series,Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular features Murray Gold’s captivating music, accompanied by specially edited sequences of Matt Smith’s performance as the
Eleventh Doctor on the big screen. A host of monsters including the spine-chilling Silence, awe-inspiring Daleks and
Cybermen will add to the electric atmosphere. Inspired by the Doctor Who Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, the 2014 show
contains all-new content including the latest music from the 50th Anniversary episode and forthcoming Christmas episodeThe Time of the Doctor, Smith’s final performance as The Doctor. The event will also feature a look back at some of the previous Doctors,
music from the last five decades and performances of audience favourites from the 2012 show.
Doctor Who celebrated its 50th anniversary in November this year with the simultaneous broadcast ofThe Day of the Doctorin 94 countries across six continents, which achieved the Guinness World Record for the largest ever simulcast of a TV
drama. In addition to the TV broadcast, the episode was screened in over 1,500 cinemas worldwide, including New Zealand,
Australia, Canada, UK, US, Latin America, Germany, Russia and Scandinavia.
TheDoctor Who Symphonic Spectacular will appear as part of the New Zealand Festival at the TSB Bank Arena, Wellington on21 and 22 February. Tickets are
