Shotover Christmas Cracker goes off with a bang
Queenstown tourism operator Shotover Jet hosted its seventh annual Christmas Cracker Show on Saturday 14 December much to the delight of the record 2,500 strong crowd.
Over 150 performers took to the stage to bring festive cheer to the local community putting on a fantastic show that included local dance schools, bands and singers, the 2013 Remarkable Men’s Ballet Group and of course Santa Claus.
Held this year for the first time outdoors at the Queenstown Recreation Ground, Christmas spirits were not dampened despite periodic rain showers.
Shotover Jet General Manager Clark Scott was “thrilled with the impressive turnout” and said he thought it was “the best show yet.”
Shotover Christmas Cracker is the second of two annual company events to raise funds for local charity Queenstown Lakes Family Centre (QLFC).
Mr Scott presented the $13,000 cheque on stage during the show which is the combined funds raised through the local’s day and the Christmas Cracker Show.
“We’re delighted to raise the largest amount we have ever raised for this deserving local charity,” Mr Scott said.
The evening’s grand finale was a spectacular display of fireworks that lit up the Queenstown sky rivalling the displays normally held during Queenstown Winter Festival and New Year’s Eve,
