Auckland Folk artists dominate Tui line up
For the second year in a row, Auckland artists have claimed two of the three finalist spots for the Best Folk Album Tui.
Auckland-based solo artist Chris Priestley and duo Tattletale Saints join Invercargill’s Into The East in the line-up announced today by Recorded Music NZ.
Chris Priestley’s album “Unsung Heroes” is a collection of historic New Zealand tales uniquely told through his folk melodies. The album comes with a small booklet with relevant images and newspaper clippings from the events he sings about.
Tattletale Saints secures a place for the debut album “How Red Is the Blood” produced by Grammy Award winner Tim O’Brien. The album was recorded early this year in Nashville, Tennessee after a successful crowd funding campaign.
Into The East spent 18-months crafting “Fight From the Inside”. The southern duo has been performing together for the past nine years and vowed not to release the album until they believed what they had was worth sharing.
Recorded Music NZ Chief Executive Officer Damian Vaughan says he is highly impressed with this year’s line-up.
“All three finalists have
produced excellent folk albums. Congratulations to each act,
they should all be immensely proud of this
achievement.”
The Tui for the Best Folk Album 2014 is being presented at the 41st annual Auckland Folk Festival in Kumeu (West Auckland) following the ‘Tui Finalists Concert’ on the evening of Sunday 26 January.
