StarJam Girl Wins New Zealand’s Got Talent
StarJam singing tutor Renee Maurice from Upper Hutt, has won the New Zealand’s Got Talent 2013 competition. The announcement was made at the season’s finale screened on TV1 on Sunday 8th Dec.
Maurice who joined StarJam in 2005 as a fourteen year old, made her debut performance at The StarJam Stage Show which marked the opening of the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau on 13th May 2005. She has since performed in more than twenty StarJam shows and gigs in both solo and large group performances.
“StarJam has been an enormous and wonderful part of my life for nine years now” says Maurice. “The friendships I've made have been invaluable and the opportunities I've been given have been amazing and life changing. Throughout my New Zealand’s Got Talent journey, I've felt the support and love from the StarJam community in truckloads, and I'm so grateful to everyone for that. I hope to continue to enjoy a relationship with StarJam for the rest of my life.” Maurice became a programme tutor in 2011 when StarJam introduced its performance programmes to the capital city.
“It’s been amazing to watch Renee grow into a hugely talented young woman”, says Julie Bartlett, StarJam’s Founder who has led the organization since its inception in 2002, until this year. “I remember like it was yesterday meeting this shy 13 year old who sang so very sweetly. I have seen her confidence grow so much and at the same time her singing has become more and more powerful. Now, as one of our thirty programme tutors, she has become a wonderful role model for other young people to follow in her footsteps – the kids adore her.”
Newly-appointed CEO Mary Ansell says Maurice’s win is a huge milestone. “We are all so proud of Renee and what she has achieved. And just six days ago another of our jammer-turned-tutors, Loren Corbett of Hamilton, won the TVNZ’s Youth Attitude Award. It’s wonderful to take over an organization that is successful in so many ways.” says Ansell.
