Len Lye: Agiagiā opens

An exhibition of internationally acclaimed New Zealand born artist Len Lye will open at the Māngere Arts Centre - Ngā
Tohu o Uenuku on Saturday 14 December.
Len Lye: Agiagiāopen until mid-March 2014, is the first showcase of Lye’s work in south Auckland and is co-curated by Auckland Council
and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery.
James Pinker, Auckland Council Arts and Culture Senior Programme Leader says thatAgiagiā is a collection Lye's work including experimental film, kinetic sculpture, drawing and photography - with a focus on
the artist’s early work during the 1920s.
“We are excited to be able to hostLen Lye: Agiagiā. Most of his work is normally housed at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth so it is a fantastic
opportunity to be able to show these works here in Auckland,” he says.
Pinker adds that “Lye was one of the first Pākehā artists to appreciate indigenous cultures around the world and he was
a true innovator. This exhibition focuses attention on Lye’s fusion of European modernism with his own distinctly local
vision and is definitely worth a visit.”
Len Lye: Agiagiā is supported by the Len Lye Foundation and the New Zealand Film Archive Ngā Kaitiaki O Ngā Taonga Whitiāhua and funded
by the Māngere – Ōtāhuhu Local Board.
