Henry Can’t Wait For New Haier Pulse Season

The Haier Pulse players were on the crest of a wave as they rounded off their weekend team camp with a series of surfing activities at the Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club.

Silver Fern Joline Henry was especially pleased to be back with her Pulse teammates.  “If this weekend is anything to go by, next season’s going to be a real cracker,” she said.

“There’s a really good mix in the team. The newbies are bringing some different dynamics and I think they’re going to add lots of different values.  There’s the potential to be a really great team - it’s very exciting.

“It’s neat to be back as a group again, but we can’t wait to get everyone together and for us to actually be into Pulse preparation full swing,” smiled Henry.

Missing from the weekend’s action were Donna Wilkins and Liana Leota, both through family commitments and Ama Agbeze who is remaining in the UK to prepare for England trials prior to the January tests.

“We’ve still got Christmas, we’ve got the UK tour, and then we can get into full swing,” added Henry.

The Pulse girls will be training together until the week before Christmas and then the Silver Ferns leave for the UK to play England and Jamaica.

“The reality is that this is an international campaign that all of the New Zealand franchises have bought into and unfortunately we are affected by it more than most, due to the number of squad and accelerant members involved.

“Just knowing that when we are taking part in an international programme, it makes us better netballers as individuals, and that can only be better for the team.  You kind of have to look at the positives from both sides,” she explained.

“Robyn’s a great coach: she’ll pull us together and get us where we need to be. I’ve certainly missed Robyn, but was fortunate enough to go down to Invercargill during the international season. She had us over and fed us up with cheese rolls and Wellington slices and other nice things.  It must have worked, because we were actually really successful that night against Australia.

The team camp involved a number of team-building activities, including the latest action game Turbo Touch, which will be used by the team during the season as a cross training activity.

“Everything we do now is certainly going to put us in good stead when it matters for the Pulse,” she concluded.

The Haier Pulse open their campaign against the Adelaide Thunderbirds at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua, the home of the Haier Pulse, on Sunday 3 March.
