FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Film Archive and Sound Archives Ngā Taonga Kōrero Review
In October 2012, the Sound Archives Ngā Taonga Kōrero were transferred from Radio New Zealand to the New Zealand Film Archive. The transfer followed a request from the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage for the Film Archive to undertake a review of its governance, structure and capability in light of the continuing consolidation of audiovisual archiving activity.
The review, which is now under way, will include extensive consultation over coming months with staff, depositors and other stakeholders and is aimed at establishing an integrated national audiovisual archive by July 2014. Film Archive Chair Jane Kominik confirmed that the Archive would remain a bicultural, non-profit organisation with a commitment to preserving and providing access to New Zealand’s film, television and radio heritage.
