Diamond Shines Again
Rolleston’s Tegan Fitzsimon and Dual Diamond have continued their winning ways taking out the Horse Grand Prix at the Southern Canterbury A today.
Backing up from a sensational win in the Ballantynes Horse Grand Prix at Canterbury A on debut at two-star level last week, Fitzsimon and her 10-year-old Duval C mare again proved too strong fending off eight other combinations.
Fourth to go, Fitzsimon and Dual Diamond were the only combination to leave all the fences up in the first round, returning with another foot perfect round in the second to seal the honours.
Clear second rounds to local rider Kelly Evans on Hammertime, Kate Cavanagh (West Melton) on Vermont, Fitzsimon on her second ride Alacazam MH, and Kurow’s Angela Ruddenklau on Allure, left all four combinations fighting it out the minor placings with four faults apiece. Cavanagh secured second with the fastest time in the second round.
The win gave Fitzsimon a huge confidence boost ahead of the South Island Championships which take place at the same venue in less than seven days
Broadfields’ Lucy Turner put an end to Lucinda Askin’s winning streak in the Country TV Pony Grand Prix, taking the honours on the ultra-talented Tallyho Mystic jumping double clear.
Having taken the honours for the last three shows on the trot Askin and her starry skewbald Totem looked on target jumping double clear, but in the end they just couldn’t catch Turner and Tallyho Mystic who finished 0.1 of a second faster in the second round.
Victoria Brown continued her success in the KiwiSpan Junior Rider with Williby Wisdom with the fastest time in a five-strong jump-off, while the Amateur Rider went to Ashleigh Coleman on Vibrance.
And in the Telford Young Rider all honours went to Rose Alfeld (Weedons) who nabbed the quinella with My Super Nova and Capprera.
The focus returns to Waimate this coming weekend for the SJNZ 3* South Island Jumping and Show Hunter Championships.
