Anika Moa Releases Her First Kids’ Album

What started as songs for her boys became Songs for Bubbas

Musicians often draw on life experiences to drive their creativity and nothing could be more true for Kiwi musician and mother, Anika Moa. Next week, the award-winning muso and 2013 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards finalist releases her fifth album, Songs for Bubbas – a musical masterpiece inspired by her two-year-old twins.

What started as spontaneous lullabies sung to her boys before bed has become a 10-track album of delightful ditties designed to entertain, educate and inspire babies, toddlers and young people. Moa’s talent for song writing, great sense of humour, passion for the conservation of Te Reo amongst young New Zealanders…and knack for making animal noises...have come together to make Aotearoa’s newest childhood musical must-have.

The album includes eight original tracks and covers of two much-loved childhood classics, Oma Rapeti and You Are My Sunshine. Kids will love The Adventures of Barry and Taane!, co-written with Azaria Universe for their two boys.  There are three acoustic lullabies, Little Bird, Go to Sleep and Sweet Dreams, designed to take bubs into a sweet slumber. And learning colours and numbers has never be more fun than with Tahi, Rua, Toru, Wha and Colours are Beautiful.

Of her newest musical endeavour, Moa said, “Making music for little people has been deeply liberating. It’s very satisfying focusing your energy on creating music to entertain and delight, for love and laughter.”

Songs for Bubbas was recorded and co-produced with Anika’s long-term co-producer Andre Upston (Stolen Hill, In Swings The Tide and Love In Motion).

It will be on sale from 29 November at selected retailers across Aotearoa, and available on iTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/nz/album/songs-for-bubbas/id738920307.
