Iconic Kiwis Collaborate On Starship Christmas Album
Artists make a life-saving difference with original recordings compilation raising funds for Starship’s National Air Ambulance Service
An unrivalled line-up of Kiwi artists have banded together to make The Starship Christmas Album 2013, raising crucial funds for New Zealand’s national children’s hospital.
More than 20 New Zealand performers – including Bic and Boh Runga, Anika Moa, Jason Kerrison, Ruby Frost, Jordan Luck, Tiki Taane, SOL3 MIO and The Phoenix Foundation – have all donated their time, talent and royalties to raise money for the Starship Foundation.
Songs on the album include a rendition of the international Number 1 Christmas hit Fairytale of New York, sung by Greg Johnson and Silver Scroll nominee Lisa Crawley, along with C-City Brothers – rugby stars Andrew Ellis, Israel Dagg, Willi Heinz, Robbie Fruean and Telusa Veainu – performing their New Zealand version of Winter Wonderland.
The Starship Foundation needs to raise more than $1.5 million a year to operate its vital National Air Ambulance Service, which flies top medical experts to life-threatening emergencies around the country. These specialists stabilise the children and allow them to be taken safely to Starship where they can receive the care they need.
Last year’s debut compilation, of international and local artists on The Starship Christmas Album 2012, raised $251,000 for the Starship Foundation. Developed and produced by music industry executive Paul Ellis in collaboration with Universal Music, it went to Number 1 in the compilation charts and Number 2 in the RIANZ charts.
“There is a range of traditional carols through to rock interpretations,” says Ellis. “The calibre is exceptional and every copy sold is helping to provide a life-saving service when Kiwi kids need it most.”
Starship Foundation CEO, Brad Clark, says the album is an extraordinary collaboration by kind-hearted people supporting Starship patients and their families when they are at their most vulnerable.
“From the artists, Universal Music and Paul Ellis – to businesses and individuals who will buy this wonderful album – a huge Starship thank you to everyone for their generosity and support of the Starship Christmas Album 2013.”
