An educational fun day out for the whole family


Don’t forget! MOTAT’s Fire and Rescue Day is on this Sunday, 10 November from 10am.

MOTAT will be jam-packed with everything from burning houses to earthquake rescues and pet therapy for this hands-on, educational event, perfect for the whole family.

With guests including NZ Police, NZ Fire Service, the Armed Offenders Unit, Auckland Council Civil Defence and Urban Search and Rescue all showcasing at the event, there’s plenty to do and see.

There’s lots of great photo and filming opportunities too. Here’s an update on some of the activities planned for the day:

• Urban Search and Rescue will show the technology used for rescue situations, including during the Christchurch Earthquake (Courtyard)
• Test your running speed against the NZ Police’s speed camera laser technology (Village)
• Mock rescue demonstrations by the NZ Fire Service Rescue Tender from two damaged vehicles at 1pm and 3pm (beside the Road Works building)
• A house fire in the Victorian Village (sessions throughout the day) – a must see!
• The Kitchen Fire Unit will be hosting demonstrations at 11:30am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm (beside the Road Works building
• NZ Fire’s new state of the art aerial appliance the ‘Bronto’ will be on display along with other fire service appliances including the Hazmat and communications appliances
• Outreach Pet Therapy will see St John and SPCA volunteers and their pets who visit victims of tragedy
• Kids Combat Challenge encourages the youngest to test their fire fighting skills by carrying a fire hose around a course!
• Plus, MOTAT’s own collection of fire appliances and vehicles will be on display during the event.
