A Christmas Without a Basement Theatre Show? Nah, Humbug!

The Basement Theatre presents
A BASEMENT CHRISTMAS CAROL
Written by Nic Sampson and Barnaby Fredric. Directed by Sophie Roberts

The Basement’s annual end-of-year tradition is back – this time with an irreverent take on Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, as A Basement Christmas Carol delivers a punch in the chestnuts for the silly season from December 4th.

Ebenezer Scrooge is in the business of Christmas, and what a business it is. Returning to his Coromandel bach on Christmas Eve to count the profits from the sale of his shoddy Christmas hampers, Scrooge discovers that this year he’s not alone.

The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future arrive to scare up some good old fashioned Christmas spirit, and hopefully change Scrooge’s attitude of how “Christmas should be cold and miserable and spent entirely indoors, like in England where Christmas was invented.”

Though the plot may be the same, nothing is ever by-the-numbers when The Basement team are involved. Penned by Nic Sampson and Barnaby Fredric, who wrote last year’s smash hit MegaChristmas (starring Kim Dotcom, need we remind you), A Basement Christmas Carol once again throws its revolving doors open as an ever changing cast of usual suspects and super special guests take to the stage in this outrageous and debaucherous Christmas party on stage.

Has the Mad Butcher sizzled his last sausage? Can Kate Shepherd atone for all the terrible things she did to secure the vote for woman? Will John Campbell get to the bottom of this very current affair? Just who is Tiny Tim’s real father?

With direction from Sophie Roberts, music by Billy T 2013 nominee Joseph Moore  and starring Gareth Williams as Scrooge, those are the only certainties you can expect from this year’s sing-a-long spectacular… besides the guarantee of a tickled funny-bone and a reminder to all of us the true meaning of the festival season.
