Many forms of Realism: Corban Estate Art Centre
Many forms of Realism: Corban Estate Art Centre
Corban Estate Arts Centre's latest exhibitions feature Ruth Cleland, Gary McMillian and Damien Kurth in conjunction with Realism the annual showcase of affordable art. These three shows all sit within the realm of Realism and are on display from 6 December to 19 January 2014.
Auckland based artists Ruth Cleland and Gary McMillian’s show Inland Empire consists of highly detailed photorealistic drawings and paintings. The shared subject matter of the “everyday” and ordinary suburban scenes draw our attention to spaces often overlooked in the busyness of daily routine.
Spun is an exhibition of finely executed still life oil paintings by Damien Kurth. In a contemporary twist on the still life tradition Kurth’s classical compositions feature unconventional often masculine objects.
In addition to the exhibitions Inland Empire and Spun, Corban Estate Arts Centre’s annual Affordable Art Exhibition is on view 6 December – 19 January, and includes a wide range of artists whose work represents Realism. This is a cash ‘n carry exhibition and is aimed at being affordable to visitors over the Christmas period.
On offer is a full range of free art gallery activities. Auckland based arts critic John Daly-Peoples will be presenting a talk on Contemporary Realism in relationship to Inland Empire and Spun Saturday 7 December. In the New Year we have Ruth Cleland and Gary McMillian presenting a not to be missed talk on Thursday 16 January 2014.
