Meadows Clean Sweeps Honda Cup At Teretonga
Christchurch driver Mark Meadows took a clean sweep of the Honda Cup events at the motor racing presented by Downer at Teretonga Park on Sunday.
Meadows, the reigning series champion, was the fastest qualifier and won all three races throughout the day. In the first he crossed the line .730 of a second ahead of Gore driver Glenn Johnston with Dunedin driver James Mitchell third. In the second Meadows beat home another Gore racer, Greg Elder, with Johnston third and in the finale it was Meadows by .233 of a second from Mitchell and Johnston. Meadows also set the fastest lap in all three races. Inky Tulloch of Gore made a spectacular and fiery exit from the opening race putting his Honda Cup car out for the remainder of the day.
Brian Scott of Dunedin was the fastest qualifier in the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloon races and while he set the fastest lap in every race things did not go totally his way in his Chev
Corvette. Inky Tulloch in his turbocharged Integra won the first two races, the first from Darryn Andrews of Lincoln in his Nissan Primera turbo with Dion Dawson of Invercargill third in his Nissan Silvia after Scott went off the circuit briefly and finished down the order. In the second race Andrews was again second behind Tulloch with Scott recovering to third.
In the Class Race Scott won from Tulloch and Andrews, Scott winning the 2501cc & over class, Warren Kett of Invercargill the 1601-2500cc class in his Mazda RX7 and Dayne McIlwrick of
Cromwell the 1301-1600cc class in his Toyota Corolla.
Scott also won the Flying Farewell from Tulloch and Andrews while the day was rounded off with the Teams Race which was won by Tulloch and Nick Hamlin (Mitsubishi Mirage) from Scott and John Muir (Commodore) with Andrews and Kieran Roberts of Invercargill in a Commodore third after an exciting race.
The next meeting at Teretonga Park takes place over the weekend of 7/8 December with an exciting line up of classes.
