SpringBreaker saves whale.
This stunning shot is Sam Jupe… 10 metres deep and diving to the rescue of a southern right whale, entangled in a long
line buoy out of Beachcomber Island, Fiji, which had completely restricted the movement of the tail. Sam, a Padi Scuba
Instructor from Auckland New Zealand, understood the risk he was taking in coming to the aid of the whale, however being
committed to the safety and welfare of marine life, Sam knew that he needed to do what he could to help free the 12m
giant, who looked to have been tangled for some time in the lines. Sam was towed behind the whale while using a blunt
knife to cut the distressed mammal free, he spent over an hour in the water and was successful in removing the buoy and
doing his part to ensure that this whale survived.
Sam is part of 120 kiwi “SpringBreaker’s” that have taken over Beachcomber Island in the Mamanuca Islands of Fiji with
Midori NZ for five nights this week, all are living the Fiji holiday dream partying to half a dozen of New Zealand’s
hottest DJ’s and musicians.
