Wellington Emerging Artists Awards & Exhibition.

Artrium Gallery is announcing the 3rd Annual Wellington Emerging Artists Awards & Exhibition.

Mayor Celia-Wade Brown is our special guest judge for this event to celebrate some of Wellington's most talented artists.

The call went out in April for local emerging artists to submit their best new work for consideration. For the competition the definition of "emerging" was specific. The artist is not a recipient of a major art award, is not making their primary living from art, can be any age, and is not represented by a professional gallery. The art entered could not have been shown publicly before as well.

21 Artists have been selected as finalist for the exhibition. The final judging will take place over the next couple days and the winners will be announced during the Awards night, Thursday 7th November. The judging panel includes 4 local professional artists including a sculptor, art instructor, photographer and digital artist - plus Wellington's own Mayor!

The finalists are: Sarah Galea, Martin Kerschbaumer, Denise Dennehy, Mary Marinan, Jeehye Shin, Morgan Ryan, Jaymesh Master, Keely Meechan, Michelle McLachlan, Jamie Mackman, Ellen Hodgetts, Veronika Red, Nikki Forsyth, Alan Hodgetts, Karin Jones, Ben Nienhoff, Frances Ratner, Lucy Guiness, Emilie Truscott, Anya Gladstone, and Sam Hughes.

Over the past 3 years Artrium Gallery has worked with hundreds of new and emerging artists in the region to display their work and to help launch their artist careers. The Finalists' artwork will be on display for ONE WEEK ONLY. This exhibition will run November 8-15th.

Artrium Gallery is open 7 days a week. Artrium Gallery is located at 310 Tinkori Road in Thorndon. www.artriumgallery.co.nz
