Winners of the 2013 Prime Minister’s Awards for Literary Achievement: Owen Marshall for fiction (front right), Michele Leggott (front left)for poetry with guide dog Olive and Martin Edmond (Back row) for non- fiction were honoured at Premier House last night (Tuesday 29 October). Each writer received $60,000 in recognition of their outstanding contribution to New Zealand literature. The Prime Minister’s Awards for Literary Achievement, established in 2003, recognise some of this country’s finest writers.  

Every year, New Zealanders are invited to nominate their choice of a writer who has made a significant contribution to New Zealand literature in the genres of non-fiction, poetry and fiction. More information on the 2013 Prime Minister’s Awards for Literary Achievement.

FREE CREATIVE NEW ZEALAND LITERARY EVENT: Four of the Best: winners of the 2013 Prime Minister’s Awards for Literary Achievement, Owen Marshall, Michele Leggott and Martin Edmond, together with the 2013 Creative New Zealand Michael King Writers’ Fellow Fiona Farrell, will discuss their work at City Gallery, Civic Square, Wellington on Wednesday 30 November at 12.30pm with MC Radio New Zealand’s Kathryn Ryan. This is a free Creative New Zealand event. All welcome.
