Canterbury Tales Continues Preparations
Organisers of Canterbury Tales, the headline event for the Festival of Transitional Architecture (FESTA) in Christchurch, are continuing their preparation for this evening's carnival of light, colour and movement although the high winds may require the event to be scaled down.
Should conditions deteriorate and continue to challenge organisers, the procession will be postponed. Otherwise, the free carnival and procession through the city at night will take place from 6pm – midnight, with the procession beginning at 8.30pm from the Bridge of Remembrance.
Regardless of the procession's status and in keeping with the spirit of an ever-evolving Christchurch, FESTA would like to welcome one and all to join them for a street party along Worcester Boulevard and in the Square, where they can enjoy, soundscapes and lights, as well as fare and drink from some of Christchurch’s favourite hospitality businesses.
The Lost and Found Night Market has been cancelled and certain of the sites along the procession's path have not been installed due to the weather conditions. Nevertheless the public is invited to participate and dress up, and to enjoy the animations, hospitality, lights, performance and sound.
FESTA organisers have every expectation that Canterbury Tales will run in its entirety on its second night, Sunday 27 October. Inner city Christchurch will come alive with a carnival of giant puppets, masked performers, sound, light and a night market.
Please visit FESTA’s Facebook page for updates. FESTA will endeavour to keep the public abreast of any new developments. FESTA also advises that the public should heed any official weather warnings.
