Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and Qantas promise Creepy Classics and More
23/10/13
Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra promises an evening of creepy classics, spooky show tunes and macabre movie music this Halloween at ‘Qantas presents: Music of the Night’.
The 31 October concert is split in two, with the first half featuring well-known classics, among them the head-first tumble that is Saint-Saëns’s Danse Macabre, and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a work today most famous for its inclusion in Disney’s Fantasia.
The concert’s second half is dedicated to music from stage and screen, including selections from Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd, as well as the song from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera that gives the concert its title, ‘The Music of the Night’. Making a special guest appearance to perform these is Kiwi music theatre star Tim Beveridge. The concert’s presenter is stage legend Raymond Hawthorne, while Marc Taddei, music director of Orchestra Wellington, occupies the podium.
Let the APO take you on a magic carpet ride of music that’s all treat, no trick.
