Last season’s Group 1 Easter Handicap winner further boosted the pedigree of her younger full-brother who is catalogued in the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale next month as Lot 300.

A graduate of the Karaka Select Sale herself, Viadana entered Saturday’s feature sprint race in a fresh state having not run since April in the Group 2 Travis Stakes.

Trained by Lance Noble, the six-year-old mare travelled near the tail of the field with the race run at a good tempo. As the field turned for home rider Craig Grylls brought Viadana to the outside and she swept to the front at the top of the straight.

Fellow Karaka graduate Ginner Heart (NZ) (Volksraad) went with Viadana and the pair drew away from the rest of the field to fight out the race with Viadana proving too strong to score by half-a-head. Durham Town (NZ) (Falkirk) ran into third placing a further 2.3 lengths back to complete a Karaka trifecta.

The second dam of Guns at Five, Heartache (Casual Lies) is the dam of Lot 29 at the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale.

The former New Zealand St Leger winner came into the race second up following an unplaced run over 1400m at Taupo earlier this month, a distance short of his best but he was seen running on strongly late in the race.

The six-year-old stepped up to a distance that was more to his liking on Saturday and was allotted the top weight of 59kgs.

Trained by Chris Wood, Guns at Five enjoyed a comfortable rails run around mid-field for jockey Trudy Thornton. The gelding was produced at the top of the short Rotorua straight by Thornton and quickly broke away from the field with a sharp turn-of-foot.

The race was in safe keeping with Guns at Five establishing a winning break in the straight and Thornton allowed her mount to coast to the finishing post to win by 2.7 lengths, with the challengers chasing in vain.

The four-year-old was dropping back in grade from his unplaced effort in the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap last start over the same staying journey of 2400m.

The John O’Shea trained gelding was sent to the front from an outside barrier draw by rider Jay Ford and was able to dictate the pace of the race, slowing the field down mid-race.

The son of High Chaparral sprinted coming around the corner but shifted ground outwards all the way down the Randwick straight. The gelding never surrendered the lead and fought off the late finish from Saint Encosta to win by a head.

The second and third placegetters both protested against Kingdoms but the protests were both thrown out by the Stipendiary Stewards and Kingdoms kept the race, however his rider Jay Ford was suspended.

The five-year-old had to chase down Ichihara who had sprinted to the lead coming up the rise at Randwick. Famous Seamus chased after the leader and proved too good over the concluding stages as he drew to the lead and won by three-quarters-of-a-length at the finishing post.

Jockey Peter Robl placed the favourite in fourth position behind a strong pace that made the 2000m a staying test for the fillies with most having their first start over a staying trip in their careers.

In the straight, Arabian Gold took the lead along with second favourite Solicit (Street Cry) and the pair fought out the race with Arabian Gold proving successful, winning by half-a-length from Solicit with fellow Sydney trained galloper Refer (Fastnet Rock) holding third position.
