Southland businesses called to action
Sport Southland is on a mission to get Southland workplaces moving.
The
2013 BNZ Workplace Challenge starts on November 4 and is a
four week challenge encouraging staff at businesses
Southland-wide to get active.
Teams of five count their
minutes of physical activity each week from November 4 to
December 1, logging their team minutes online, in a bid to
be crowned Southland’s most active workplace.
Last year’s challenge attracted more than 580 people and this year, Sport Southland is urging even more people to get on board.
Sport Southland active lifestyles manager Jared Cappie said the best part of the Challenge was that it suited all fitness levels and abilities.
“You can fit
your physical activity in when it suits you and do what you
like doing – whether it’s going for a bike ride, a walk
or a run, or playing bowls or a round of golf, it all counts
towards your team minutes,” he said.
With three
categories – Office/Car Based, Small Business and Active
at Work – the challenge was designed to fit all
businesses.
“In the past it’s been great where businesses have entered more than one team, so there’s that inter-office rivalry. Here at Sport Southland it definitely gets quite competitive in our own in-house competition, but it’s all good fun,” he said.
“The key aim is to get everyone taking part in more physical activity, and by introducing a little bit of competition, weekly challenges, and up to $10,000 worth of prizes to be won across the four weeks, it just adds even more motivation.”
BNZ spokeswoman Amanda Bradley said the BNZ
Workplace Challenge was a fantastic way to encourage staff
to work together and to get active.
“We always enter a
number of teams across all of our Southland branches, so
while it gets competitive, it also gets people thinking
about how they can include physical activity in their daily
routines, which is a great thing,” she said.
“The best
thing is it suits all fitness levels so, whether you’re
just starting out or you are an experienced athlete, you can
motivate each other to keep those minutes of physical
activity up.”
All participants that enter before
Friday October 25 will be in the draw to win two nights’
accommodation for two people at Peppers Beacon in
Queenstown.
