Revolve Cycling Club Newsletter

Revolve Cycling Club Newsletter

It wouldn't be green in Wellington without all this rain! A huge congrats to all the councilours (heaps of new greeny faces!) and welcome back to Celia Wade Brown. There was a huge effort by the Love Cycling Campagin...and it looks like it really paid off. Bring it on! Spring is here, and we have heaps happening on the Revolve front....only 2 weeks till the end of the Revolve Spring Challenge (see more details below).

Last Weekend's rides (fun!):
Road ride with Lou: Great ride today Roadies. Awesome effort up to the Wind Turbine - everyone worked hard climbing the hills and then we had a speedy 6 who led the way around the Bays as a fairly slick Revolve peloton. We had a few peel off along the way but the majority did the full 50km.

Road skills course: 3 hr course attended by 4 beginner(ish) riders & 1 Camp Mum. Skills learned in the car park then around the peninsula to put it into practice incl. negotiating busy Kilbirnie intersections. Fab course & morning, thanks Marilyn.

PNP MTB Makara round - awesome effort by the ladies, a muddy fun course :)

Nicole's MTB excursion -9 riders in all (including 1 newbie) wallowed in the mud and enjoyed the spectacular sunshine. We enjoyed the sights from Wright's Hill lookout before circumnavigating the Sanctuary. All riders completed the circuit. Lovely day out! Next excursion planned for Sunday Nov. 17th.

Let's Ride!

Thursday's night MTB ride - fortnightly*
THIS Thursday 17 October, 6pm at Makara Peak
Join Camp Mum Anna for THE LAST MTB night ride adventures of the season! The plan is to do the grand loop and if there are enough coco's there might also be a lower loop option. This ride is aimed at intermediate - advanced riders. Please make sure you still bring your night lights (even though it's staying light for longer), and some warm layers. Meet at the main carpark on Sth Karori Rd for a 6pm start.
*The fortnightly Thursday night rides will become weekly again from the end of October!

Saturday's Weekly Road Ride

19 October, 8am at On Yer BIke
Join camp mums Ros & Karen for the luxury of again 2 ride options leading up to Taupo!
-Ride A: Camp mum Rosalind will take you for a spin around the bays. This 40km-ish ride that will take between 2.5-3 hours including a coffee stop at Scortchorama is aimed at beginners and/or newbees!
-Ribe B: Camp mum Karen will put you ladies through a challenge doing a double(!) Makara Loop (of course there's the optional once for those who prefer). This Makara loop is also about 40km but is a lot more challenging with lots of hills, and is aimed at intermediate-advanced riders.
For both rides, meet at On Yer Bike at 8am.

Each race has 3 great courses to choose from (1hr-2.5hr) and we're gonna check them out; beginner- advanced options! Even if you're not keen to race at the actual event, this is a chance to just go for a MTB with Revolve on the weekend.
Join camp mums Agnes and Anna for the next pre-ride of the Wainui round, on Sunday 27 Oct. Meet at the main Wainui Park carpark (Waiu Str), for a 9am start. Any questions, please email Agnes at magryta@xtra.co.nz.
After that there will be one more pre-ride at Makara Peak on 10 Nov for the last round's pre-ride.

The Very First Revolve Spring Challenge!
Ending 31 October
Come along to 3 Revolve rides during September and/or October, you're in the draw to win a morning of style and a Revolve membership (if you aren't one already)! The lovely Trudi from Wardrobe Flair has put together 2 options for you to choose from:

Yoga for Cyclists

Wednesdays, 7 to 8.15pm, 181 Willis Street, 3rd Floor
Yoga is a great way to improve your posture, balance and mental attitude. Each session differs so cyclists can get the opportunity to counter the stresses and strains of cycling. As the posture we use to ride is rather unnatural the spine, shoulders and neck needs a way in which to relax, hamstrings and achilles require a little lengthening. Through working in an intelligent way and carefully looking at what the body needs yoga can enhance the way you ride whether it be commuting, mountain biking or road riding. All postures are accompanied by the breath so awareness is increased of how your body and mind interacts. Calming the mind and body together is one of the best things you can do for your health. It may also help you to relax before competing or hurtling down a tricky track. Come along if you fancy a session, beginners are more than welcome. Cost $18 per session, concession with Revolve membership $15. Any questons contact Rebecca: 0210708300 or 9766389 or check out the Yoga for Cyclists facebook page.

Happy riding!
