Taylor’s Hot Form Continues
Swannanoa’s Sam Taylor got just the confidence boost he needed ahead of the RD1 National One Day Eventing Championships with a dominant win in the CNC3* at Eventing Canterbury’s One Day Horse Trial at the National Equestrian Centre at McLeans Island today.
Aboard the 10-year-old Leo Degas, Taylor led from go to whoa, adding just 10.4 time penalties on the cross country to his dressage score to win on 51, more than 20 penalties clear of Sophie Wigley (Amberley) on S.E. Big.
“It was a good, solid advanced test and the perfect lead-up to the National One Day Eventing Championships in three weeks time at the same venue,” said Taylor. “He was a bit full of himself in the dressage, but he jumped well.”
Winner of the Waiteko Trophy for the National One Day CIC2* champion last year when held at Taupo, Taylor was looking forward to stepping out at CIC3* level in front of a home crowd.
The win also gave him valuable first points in the national Super League Series.
Rangiora’s Ellie Braddock rode Miss Matilda to success in the CNC2*. Seven started the class, with just three combinations jumping clear across country. Braddock and Miss Matilda finished on a score of 57.6, well clear of second placed Lauren Enright (Outram) on Tokyo Road on 66.7, with dressage leader Larissa Srhoy on Smirnoff, dropping to third after striking difficulty on the cross country.
The hotly-contested CNC1* went to Lindsay Colwell (Templeton) helped by a smart dressage performance ahead of Davina Waddy (Cheviot) on Milburn Maringo, and Sophie Abbott (Christchurch) on Time To Tango Too.
Kirstin Beaven (West Melton) and RV Dreamcatcher won the Prebbleton Vet Clinic CNC105, with the two CNC95 divisions, sponsored by Strategy Wormers and McMillans CRT Feed Barn respectively, taken out by Brent Jury (Cust) on S.E. Back To Black and Emily Cammock (West Melton) on RV Tiviano. Meanwhile, Nelson’s Natalie Coles made the trip south worthwhile winning the Saddlery Barn CNC80 with Stanaway’s Volleyball.
