Google Honours Kiwi Kat
Google has marked the birthday of lauded kiwi author Katherine Mansfield with an interactive doodle on it's homepage. The illustration features a green colour scheme with the image of a woman, presumably Mansfield, holding a plate with some food.
Today marks the 125th Anniversary of Mansfield's birth in Wellington circa 1888, she died aged only 34 from tuberculosis. Before her untimely death, Mansfield published close to 40 short stories and is today remembered as one of histories most prominent short fiction writers.
Google regularly updates their logo to mark significant events or to honour people from history. The tradition began in 1998 when Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin created a custom logo to represent their recent trip to the Burning Man Festival in Nevada.
Katherine Mansfield was born into a prominent Wellington family in 1888, her father Sir Harold Beauchamp received a knighthood for his position as the chairman of the Bank of New Zealand.
Mansfield proved to be a prolific writer in her final years with much of her later work remaining unpublished at the time of her death
