Biggest Night in History for Givealittle

Biggest Night in History for Givealittle

Last night Kiwi fundraising website Givealittle.co.nz experienced the biggest night of its five year history after a major spike in donations to a fan fundraising page to support the next Kiwi America’s Cup challenge.

Avid ETNZ supporter Ned Dawson created cause ‘Team New Zealand for America’s Cup 35’ last week to enable all Kiwis to fundraise for Emirates Team New Zealand’s next America’s Cup campaign.

The cause gained momentum earlier this week and received a growing number of donations ahead of the welcome home event on the Auckland waterfront today.

The result was the biggest night ever for Givealittle, proudly owned by the Telecom Foundation, with over $37,000 donations to the America’s Cup cause in the space of five hours. At its peak donations were averaging $10,000 per hour. Now the cause has raised over $100,000 and is growing by the minute!

Lynne Le Gros, General Manager of the Telecom Foundation, isn’t surprised that the cause has taken off:

“Over the last month we've all seen the public outpouring of support for Emirates Team New Zealand and last night we saw how Givealittle can be used to facilitate the generosity of Kiwis for causes they are passionate about, it’s clear that many Kiwis across the country want Team New Zealand to be a challenger at the next America’s Cup and the giving to this cause has been amazing to witness”.

The Telecom Foundation acquired Givealittle in 2012 and turned it into a zero fees fundraising website ensuring 100% of the money fundraised on the site goes directly to every cause.

“We strongly believe that by giving all Kiwis the opportunity to donate to a zero fees fundraising site, generosity has steadily increased as we witnessed last night. We have seen a huge growth in donations on the site and positive feedback confirms our opinion that Kiwi donors do want assurance that 100% of their donation gets to the cause”, says Lynne Le Gros.
Donations to the Emirates Team New Zealand for America's Cup cause page will remain in the Telecom Foundation Givealittle bank account until such time as Emirates Team New Zealand are able to provide a bank account for settlement. Either to support America's Cup 35 or, should Emirates Team New Zealand not participate in the next event, to support other projects endorsed by Emirates Team New Zealand.
