Queensland Academy Clean Sweep
PRESS RELEASE
Queensland Academy Clean Sweep
Auckland, New Zealand, October 3, 2013 - There was a good size crowd on hand to watch the NZ Residents 16s play the Queensland Academy of Sport Rugby League team (QA) at Bruce Pulman Park today. In the first game, played on Monday at Toll Stadium, the QA team scored two late tries to win 26-18, today it was the NZ Residents 16s who scored two late tries, but fell short, with the final score 26 - 22 to the visitors.
As always the ground was in excellent condition and warm sunshine and a light breeze provided perfect conditions for running rugby league and that’s what both teams played. The QA played quality attacking football and kept their intensity high, especially when on defense, which saw them leading 22-10 at half time. Last play errors on a number of occasions saw the 16s fail to convert their attacking opportunities, especially in the second half, and it was only in the last few minutes that they completed their sets and scored.
Queensland coach Kurt Richards said he was really happy with his team's performance, "Our focus this trip was on defense, and I'm really pleased about the way they just kept turning up for each other. Coming to NZ is great for their development and they've learnt a lot on this trip about what it's like to play at this level. It's been a great trip and really worthwhile for us."
