National Competition 15s Tournament - Day Three

National Competition 15s Tournament - Day Three

Auckland, NZ, October 2, 2013 – After three days of pool play two teams finished with three wins from three, the Akarana Falcons and the ARL's development side.

In today's game the ARL side played the Wellington Orcas, who had also been strong performers on the first two days, and the Orcas scored first. The ARL side stayed with them and they went to the break 12-all at half time. In the second half the Orcas were again the first to score and were two tries in front, at 20 - 12, when the ARL lifted the tempo, scoring two unanswered tries and sealing the victory with a drop goal.

The ARL side showed some real composure to take a drop goal for the win in yesterday's game, and today they followed that up with an excellent kick for touch from the kick off, which earned them an attacking scrum in the first half and they went on to score. They followed this with a drop goal in the second half and are looking the team to beat in this tournament.

Defending champions the Counties Manukau Stingrays got on the board with their first win today, running out convincing 36-6 winners over the Central Vipers. The Vipers were a skillful team but the Stingrays made use of their size and hard running to get the ball to the edges and score six tries to one.

Tomorrow is another busy day with semi-finals and two representative games. All welcome, entry free.
