Teretonga Action Continues
After the ASKO South Island Endurance Series opened the season at Teretonga Park on Saturday, the following day saw Pro 7 Saloons, Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans cars and Sports & Racing Cars take the limelight in action presented by Downer.
The Pro 7 Saloons kicked off their 2013/2014 South Island Championship and it was two Timaru drivers who shared the spoils. George Gilbert emerged with two wins and a fifth place while reigning champion Daniel Taylor took the other race and placed second in the other two behind Gilbert. Former class champion Jason Corboy of Christchurch took a second, third and fourth from the three races while Ken Thompson of Mosgiel carded two thirds and a fifth.
Brian Scott of Dunedin had a successful day in the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans events with three wins in his Chev Corvette. Robert Ralston of Invercargill won the opening race in his Nissan Silvia from a large field with Scott second and Inky Tulloch third in a Honda Integra. Ralston retired from the second race after setting the fastest lap, Scott picking up the win from Tulloch and Steve Scoles of Outram in a Chev Camaro. Scott took his second win in the third race of the day with Tulloch again second ahead of Ralston who returned with another fastest lap on his way to third place. Scott took the Class 4 honours in this race for cars 2501cc & over, Dean Maw of Invercargill in his Mazda RX7 Class 3 (1601-2500cc), Rhys Turner of Dunedin, Honda Civic,
Class 2 (1301-1600cc) and Shane Crosbie of Invercargill took Class 1 (0-1300cc) in his Ford Falcon Star Car. Scott also took the Flying Farewell from Tulloch and Darryn Andrews of Lincoln in a Nissan Primera Turbo.
Gary Cooper of Dunedin took the first two Sports & Racing Car races in his Reynard 92H from Invercargill driver Dave McKenzie in another Reynard. Cooper did not finish the third race and did not appear in the Flying Farewell with McKenzie taking both those races. Invercargill drivers Jamie Conroy and Stephen Heffernan shared the other placings.
