Royal Marines band to serenade Parliament

The people of Wellington are invited along to watch Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Band performing outside Parliament on Monday the 30th of September.

The world famous band will be playing on Parliament’s forecourt between 12 noon and 12:45 p.m.

The Royal Marines are in New Zealand at the start of their Asia Pacific Tour and will perform in Auckland, Blenheim, Wanganui and Wellington before heading off to Australia to take part in the International Fleet Review.

Acting High Commissioner, Patrick Reilly says,

“‘It will be fabulous to see one of the World’s best Military Bands parading on the forecourt of Parliament. What better way to demonstrate our shared history and culture. So come along and enjoy a special performance including the world renowned drill and precision of the Royal Marine drummers. “

This multitalented group of 40 musicians each play two to three instruments. The band not only performs as a ceremonial marching band but also as a symphony orchestra, concert band, big band and a pop/rock band. They are also trained military medics and have been deployed on operations to places such as Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo.
The Band will start their tour in Auckland where they share the stage with the Royal NZ Navy Band at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland on Friday night. Director of Music for the Royal NZ Navy, Lieutenant Commander Owen Clarke, is excited to perform with such world class musicians and says,

“The tradition and history of the Royal Marine Bands are astounding. To be able to combine in performance is a thrill for our NZ Navy Band musicians.”

The Royal Marine Band concerts will raise money for a number of charities while in NZ, including Multiple Sclerosis New Zealand (MSNZ) at Westlake Boys High School and Help for Heroes.
