Footnote Dance – Made In New Zealand 2013

Footnote Dance – Made In New Zealand 2013
THE FINAL SEASON

Footnote Dance has big plans - to close the format of the last 27 years and to move into the future by reshaping itself as a creative production company.

Made in New Zealand 2013 will be the seventh and final in this series for Footnote Dance, breaking new ground by presenting a programme totally made by one kiwi choreographer.

Guest Director for this season, Sarah Foster-Sproull’s new work COLT is influenced by the choreographer’s observations on being part of a community in the throes of creation. COLT explores what it means to be a part of something big or something small. Sproull explains, “COLT could be a gun. It could be a horse. It could be a gun pointed at a horse, held by a dancer in a blindfold”.

Described as an unsettling work in an unsettled world, this series is set to cause audiences to be challenged, exhilarated and afraid. To be watched in the safety of your seat, this season will be shown firstly in August at Wellington’s Opera House followed by shows throughout October in Hamilton, Auckland and New Plymouth.

Since 2007, Deirdre Tarrant’s touchstone programme Made in New Zealand has encouraged and supported an amazing stable of contemporary talent, providing ongoing opportunities for locally emerging and established choreographers. This series has always been about celebrating, presenting and touring the work of Kiwi creators to Kiwi music for Kiwi audiences. The final show will be no different – totally new – very physical – and danced by the fabulous Footnote dancers.
