NEW ZEALAND ECO FASHION EXPOSED Press Release 22 August 2013
21st September 2013
Laurie Foon – Designer of Starfish set to MC Inaugural Eco Fashion Runway
Laurie Foon, an original Hutt Valley Girl, one of NZ's first eco fashion pioneers with her Starfish label will be MC’ing the runway and Stansborough textiles will also be present with a display of textiles made for the Hobbit.
Co-founded and driven by designer Denise Anglesey and her husband Vinnie, New Zealand Eco Fashion Exposed being held in Lower Hutt on 21st September 2013 will showcase fashion that is ecologically, environmentally and ethically sustainable, as well as up-cycled fashion. This Inaugural Event will be an introduction runway event for what is to become New Zealand Eco Fashion Week.
Denise herself has been designing and producing up-cycled garments since 2008 for her Denise H Eco Design label. So the concept of eco-fashion is familiar for her.
In the evening at the Sacred Heart Performing Arts Centre, a total of 12 ethical/eco/up-cycling designers from all over New Zealand will feature including International Designer Karishma Design. Karishma’s designs have been on the runway at South Africa Fashion Week and Show Cased in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Students from Hutt Valley & Wainuiomata High Schools will also feature with a collection of up-cycled garments made from discarded jeans and sweat shirts. The Sacred Heart Kapa Haka Group will also perform wearing designs from designer Ron Tekawa. Models for the event were auditioned at Abode Café in July.
Look out too for Shwop & Style being held at the Dowse Art Museum, an event where visitors can swap good quality, useable garments they no longer use, for something they will use. Auckland-based Nora Swann of Kila’s Style will also be present to show visitors how to build a sustainable wardrobe that is stylish and matches their lifestyle. Alongside this wardrobe swapping event there will be a New Zealand Eco Pop Up Boutique which is open to the public.
Miss Humanity International NZ 2013 Sarah Taimana Brodrick will appear as a special guest at the event modeling alongside ‘Sustainable Style 2013’ Model Hannah Pasene from Wainuiomata, New Zealand.
A full day schedule is available at www.nzecofashionweek.com with links to event finder for tickets. Tickets are also available from the Lower Hutt Visitor I Site.
Media / Buyers applications are also available via our website.
