“Hundreds of entries representing thousands of songwriting hours have been whittled down to the top five songs in line for the 2013 APRA Silver Scroll Award. We are proud to be able to pay homage to this exceptional collection of exquisitely crafted songs” says APRA’s Anthony Healey.
The Silver Scroll award is New Zealand’s only peer-voted songwriting award, and is widely considered the most prestigious songwriting award in the country.  The Top 5 were decided by the 10,000 strong APRA membership – all songwriters or composers themselves – who voted for their champion for 2013.
Since 1965 the Silver Scroll Award has paid tribute to an impressive list of songwriters, with an honour roll that includes Ray Columbus, Neil Finn, Don McGlashan, Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga, Chris Knox, Brooke Fraser and The Naked and Famous.
Also announced today were the finalists for the APRA Maioha and SOUNZ Contemporary awards, celebrating excellence in Maori and contemporary classical compositions respectively.
The finalists for the 2013 APRA Maioha Award are:
E Te Iwi, written by Kimo Winiata, Keelan Ransfield, Moses Ketu and Liam Ogden, performed by IWI.
Ruaimoko, written by Maisey Rika, Te Kahautu Maxwell, Mahuia Bridgman-Cooper and Anika Moa, performed by Maisey Rika, featuring Anika Moa.

Both the Maioha and SOUNZ awards will be presented at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards, along with the Most Performed Works awards and a very special induction into the NZ Music Hall of Fame.
The 2013 APRA Silver Scroll Awards will be held at Vector Arena in Auckland on Tuesday 15th October, and will be live-streamed via NZ Herald Online.
With thanks to Budweiser for their generous support of the awards.
