Benny Tipene says goodbye for now to Palmerston North
Palmy’s golden boy of music chases the city lights of Auckland
Auckland, 12 September 2013 – He may not have taken out the title in July, but X-Factor’s Benny Tipene is fast becoming New Zealand’s favourite new musical talent.
Tipene has made no secret of his pride for his Manawatu roots. Ambitious and driven, the time has come to make the move to Auckland to make most of opportunities in the city.
Tipene feels bittersweet about his big move, “I kinda don’t want to leave Palmy but now’s the time for me to make the most of things while I’m still young, and to grow my music career in a bigger city. You have to go where the work is. I’ll always call Palmy home, though.”
Thanks to Courtesy Ford Manawatu, Tipene will be travelling up the North Island safely and in style, in a brand new Ford Territory Titanium that, as a seven-seater, provides plenty of space to help transport a lot of musical gear. The Ford Territory is also packed with intuitive features like Satellite Navigation within the Interior Command Centre’s 8” colour touch screen. The diesel engine won’t let him down on the drive as it’s fuel-efficient yet powerful. Tipene says he’s excited to pick up the keys at 3pm today to the borrowed vehicle and to take it for a good test drive up State Highway 1.
It’s not goodbye forever – more like “seeya later”. Tipene plans to travel back to Palmerston North regularly to visit his family and friends – of which he has a lot! The locals already miss him but they’re sure Benny will be taking the #ManawatuMeke message with him.
Come and farewell Benny as he gives one last community performance at his Palmy regular, The Village Inn Kitchen tomorrow night, 13th September, from 8pm.
