TICKETS ON SALE TOMORROW
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas & 10cc
Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the Summer Concert Tour to be held in Taupo, Matakana and Queenstown next February. Promoters have had a huge response to the announcement that classic rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd and Starship featuring Mickey Thomas (of Jefferson Starship fame) will be touring NZ for the first time along with iconic British group 10cc.
Greenstone Entertainment’s Amanda Calvert said that since the tour announcement two weeks ago the level of enquiry has been staggering. She credits the unique
line-up coupled with picturesque venues situated in NZ’s top holiday destinations, plus the outstanding successes of
previous year’s concerts which sold out in Taupo and Queenstown. “To see such rock royalty perform live in some of NZ’s most scenic venues is a not to be missed experience. The shows are
great for day-trippers and are fantastic value for money – an entire afternoon with some of the world’s finest music
legends for only $89 for locals or $99 for others – so get your tickets early!” said Calvert.
Over 14,000 people enjoyed the Taupo Summer Concert in February 2013 and Mayor Rick Cooper is looking forward to “rocking good times and another full house in 2014”. He said the Taupo Summer Concert to be held in the beautiful Amphitheatre and adjacent Riverside Park, gave a great
reason to visit Taupo and make the most of what the District has to offer. “We look forward to our guests discovering all the area has to offer, including the natural beauty of Lake Taupo, Huka
Falls and other tourist attractions, as well as our fantastic cafes and restaurants” said Cooper.
John Baker, Proprietor of Matakana Country Park is pleased to be hosting the concert for a second year and said the show was a
huge bonus to the region. “Matakana was buzzing with visitors from Northland, Auckland and further afield and people are still talking about the
February show which featured Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Bachman & Turner and America. To host such internationally renowned artists was a fantastic boost to the area. With the 2014
show being on Sunday 9th of February it makes an ideal stop off for those travelling back from their long Waitangi weekend holiday in Northland.
For those coming from Auckland, buses are available from Britomart in Central Auckland to the venue and back, so it’s an
easy afternoon return trip.” said Baker.
Queenstown’s Gibbston Valley Winery CEO Greg Hunt said “Three previous successful concerts have seen the Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert firmly entrench itself on NZ’s
entertainment calendar. Our Queenstown venue is in a stunning setting with a natural amphitheatre and an iconic Central
Otago backdrop and Lynyrd Skynyrd, with their southern rock, will feel right at home! There is no better way to spend a
summer’s day than, sitting in the sunshine, enjoying great international acts in a relaxing setting, with a glass of
Gibbston Valley Winery’s best offering in hand!”
American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd shot to fame in the 70’s as a result of their driving live performances and signature tunes like the classic rock
anthem Sweet Home Alabama, Free Bird, Saturday Night Special and Simple Man.
Mickey Thomas the voice behind Starship recorded a string of hits including No Way Out, We Built This City, Sara, Laying It On The Line, It’s Not Over (Til It’s Over) and the #1 Oscar nominated hit Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now (from the movie Mannequin).
English art rock group 10cc are responsible for some of the most lyrically dextrous and musically varied songs of the 70’s and 80’s. Their hits
include Dreadlock Holiday, The Things We Do For Love, I’m Not In Love, Art For Art’s Sake, Rubber Bullets, Cry, I’m Mandy Fly Me and Donna.
