EVENT PREVIEW
BIG ENTRY FOR 46TH ANNUAL BLOSSOM KART MEETING
KartSport New Zealand's summer season kicks off in Hawke's Bay this weekend with over 100 karters from all over the country descending on the KartSport Hawke's Bay club's Roy's Hill Road circuit near Hastings for the 46th annual Blossom Sprint meeting.
One of the longest running stand-alone regional meetings on the national KartSport calendar the Blossom event has a unique format thanks to the fact that the 687 metre track is certified to run in both directions.
That means that racing on Saturday is run in the clockwise direction, racing on Sunday counter-clockwise, with all the differences in line, gearing and lap times that entails.
The track is marginally quicker when run in the clockwise direction as evidenced by the class lap record times of top local driver, reigning New Zealand 125cc Rotax Max Heavy title holder Zach Zaloum.
Zach's best clockwise lap is 33.023 seconds, his best anti-clockwise lap 33.105!
This weekend's meeting has attracted 117 entries with the the Cadet and Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha classes best supported with 24 entries each.
The best supported Senior class, 125cc Rotax Max Light, is not far behind with 23 entries.
Drivers to look out for the Cadet include Thomas Boniface from New Plymouth and Joshua Parkinson from Auckland, Kaleb Ngatoa from the Manawatu and Liam Lawson from Auckland in Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha, Scott Manson from Christchurch and Andy Schofield from Cambridge in 125cc Rotax Max Light, local Trey Nairn and Wellington sisters Maddy and Ashleigh Stewart in Formula Junior and Aucklander Mathew Kinsman and locals Tom Curran and Donna Lee in KZ2.
There will also be interest in the performance of reigning New Zealand Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha champion Caleb Cross from Christchurch in his first major meeting in the Junior Yamaha class.
There will action on track both days from tuning runs starting at 8.30am to racing concluding at 5.00pm
