What is New Zealand’s greatest sporting moment? The Great Te Ara Sports Debate will help New Zealanders decide
The Great Te Ara Sports Debate, taking place at Te Papa this Saturday brings together a group of vocal sports enthusiasts to discuss: what is New Zealand’s greatest sporting moment?
Paralympian, Paula Tesoriero; sports broadcaster, Kent Johns; historian, Jock Phillips; comedian, Raybon Kan; former world champion rower Philippa Baker-Hogan and MC Bryan Waddle will each take to the stage at Te Papa’s marae this Saturday 7 September at 1pm to decide which moment in New Zealand’s sporting history, truly is the greatest.
The debate is celebrating the launch of new entries in New Zealand’s online encyclopedia, Te Ara.
Te Ara’s new Daily Life, Sport and Recreation entries provide a look into the way New Zealanders live, our recreational activities and chart our sporting highlights.
Senior editor, Jock Phillips, says the new entries reflect the true nature of New Zealand culture and our favourite pastimes.
“It’s been great to write a resource about this part of New Zealand’s past and present. We’re an eclectic bunch, and I think people will be surprised to read about our most popular hobbies and weekend pursuits. The way New Zealanders socialise has changed through the decades, and these changes run alongside key moments in our history”.
The debate has already created heated discussions and arguments on Facebook and Twitter. The audience will have their chance to have a say and participate at Te Papa, tomorrow at 1pm.
