Appointment of Auckland Sport Board

The Selection and Performance Committee of Auckland Sport today recommended that Raewyn Lovett be appointed as Chair of its Board. An additional five Trustees - Graham Child, Eru Lyndon, Peter Meehan, Helen Robinson and Jo Wiggins - have been appointed.

Commenting on their selection, outgoing Chair of the Establishment Board Sir John Wells congratulated the new Board and paid tribute to the outgoing Trustees, “I am delighted to be handing over to an experienced Board of Trustees with excellent sector, commercial and governance credentials. Together they will play a key role in steering the development of Auckland Sport. I’m particularly pleased that Raewyn has been nominated as Chair. She brings an exceptional track record of leading organisations through change and growth. I’d like to thank outgoing Trustees Jim Doyle, Anthony Ford, David Kennedy and Andrew McKenzie for their important contribution in helping to set up Auckland Sport.”

Commenting on her nomination, Raewyn said “I am delighted to be nominated to lead the Board at this exciting stage of Auckland Sport’s development. On behalf of the Establishment Board I wish to thank Sir John Wells for his deft and tireless work over the past nine months through the organisation’s early establishment phase. I’d also like to thank the Chairs and CEOs of the local RSTs for their continued patience and support during this time of transition.”

Auckland Sport has been set up to encourage all Aucklanders to be more active, more often, by devising regional strategies, influencing investment and working in partnership with the sport and recreation sector. It will also provide cost-effective shared services to Auckland RSTs.

The Establishment Board’s next and final meeting is in October, at which time it will hand over to the permanent Board, who will confirm the Chair. Peter Meehan and Jo Wiggins will resign their positions as Chair of Sport Waitakere and Sport Auckland.
