Team New Zealand heavily favoured to win the America’s Cup

With the drama moving from the dry dock to the water, NZ yachting fans are feeling confident, says the TAB.

After Wednesday morning’s decision by the America's Cup international jury to penalise Oracle two points, Emirates Team New Zealand are strong favourites to return the Auld Mug back to New Zealand shores.

“We have moved Emirates Team New Zealand into $1.40 from the $2.75 price we opened up at prior to the Louis Vuitton Cup, largely due to Wednesday morning’s jury decision,” said TAB Yachting Bookmaker Kieran McAnulty.

“The dominant display from the NZ boat in the Louis Vuitton series was also a factor in making Team New Zealand strong favourites.”

Many feel New Zealand will be lifting the America’s Cup for a third time.

“The money is telling us that NZ is the only team in the America’s Cup. Since we reopened betting after the jury decision, 95% of the bets we have taken have been for Team New Zealand, including $4,000 on Grant Dalton’s men to win Race 1,” said McAnulty

While Team New Zealand dominated the Louis Vuitton Cup, Sir Russell Coutts’ Oracle team is an unknown quantity.

“We’ll have a better sense of how each of the teams match-up when we see them in the water on Sunday, and we’ll adjust our odds accordingly,” said McAnulty.

Only time will tell but what is certain is that New Zealand yachting fans are in for an exciting time.

The TAB will be offering odds on each match of the 2013 America’s Cup.
