NZRL National Competition 2013 - Monday Night Rugby League Results
Auckland, NZ, September 2, 2013 – The Wai-Coa-Bay Stallions and the Wellington Orcas were welcomed out onto Mt Smart Stadium tonight by an enthusiastic haka from the visiting Taita College. Taita, in town for the week for the National Secondary Schools tournament, provided vocal support for the teams throughout the game, cheering, singing and chanting to the end.
While the Orcas ran out convincing winners, the Wai-Coa-Bay Stallions never gave up despite having had a limited preparation, with a number of their players having club and representative commitments up until last weekend.
At 28-6 to Wellington at half time, it could have easily become all one way traffic, but to their credit the Stallions dug deep and scored 20 points in the second half. Both teams will be back at Mt Smart next Monday, with the Stallions playing the Counties Manukau Stingrays while Wellington will play the Akarana Falcons in the televised game.
Wai-Coa- Bays Stallions: 26 (Love-Henry, Rameka, Gordon, Karena, Koko Tries; Karena 3 goals)
Wellington Orcas: 46 (O'Brien 2, Maccormick, Ulberg 2, Lesoa, Masanga, Gregorious Tries; Maccormick 7 goals)
Half time: 28 – 6 to Wellington
Referee: Daniel Caddy
