National Secondary Schools Tournament Day Two
Auckland, September 3, 2013 – A good crowd had already gathered at Bruce Pulman in advance of the 10am kick off of the second day of the National Secondary Schools tournament. By mid morning all the grounds were surrounded by rugby league fans enjoying great competition in beautiful sunshine.
Haka reverberated around the grounds, before the games got underway on fields which are holding up well to the demands of two games a day, every day. Some stunning runaway tries have been the feature of high scoring games which are quickly showing which are the teams to watch on Thursday and Friday (semi’s and finals days).
Many first round winners backed up on the second day of competition including last year’s winners St Paul’s, along with Tokoroa High School and Rotorua Boys High School. With St Paul’s to face Tokoroa on Wednesday, only one can go through to the semi finals unbeaten, while Rotorua are looking strong in the Developing Grade.
Off field action continues to keep the crowds entertained, with Mai FM bringing out their basketball hoop and the NZ Police offering a variety of fun challenges. This afternoon the players will take part in the very popular position specific coaching sessions with past players including Kiwis and NRL players.
